The goal of this applied sociological study of Belgrade neighborhoods Banovo brdo and Žarkovo is to look into the way and quality of living of their inhabitants, i.e. to uncover and explicate problems these residents encounter in meeting their daily needs in the context of social and economic crisis. By studying the “use value” of the two communities and the daily life of the residents the author examines morphology and spatial organization, availability of facilities and resources, safety, social structure and position of social groups, social relations in the neighborhoods and the attitudes of residents and local leaders on maintenance, change and development of the communities.
