This book, winner of the 2016 Vojin Milić Award for the best book in sociology, offers a sociological account of the transition to parenthood, and early parenthood, as actual social processes and practices. Aiming at outlining the main trends, structures, processes and norms within which the transition to early parenthood is shaped, the authors use both quantitative and qualitative data. An additional and specific insight into a deeper understanding and interpretation of the phenomenon is provided by the narratives obtained through interviews with young mothers and fathers, as well as young people who are about to start a family of their own.
