The book traces the changing rates of social mobility not just in the long-term perspective of Serbia’s societal transformation but also through cross-country comparisons. In this way a tight connection is established between studying mobility, as an aspect of the reproduction of a society’s class structure, with systemic change during postsocialist transformation in general, and in its highly distinct form in Serbia in particular. The book is of possibly international interest because it contains a wealth of data and profound sociological analyses, compared with findings of research conducted in numerous countries similar in socio-cultural, historical and political terms.
