This book on social inclusion deploys a textbook format to address the key concepts, problems, current conditions and measures related to the phenomenon. At present, the EU social policies are not targeting just the concept of poverty alone, which amounts to a lack in material resources, but rather seek to encompass also the properties and circumstances that result in exclusion from the main social, economic and political developments. The book has originated as a supplement to an internet course on social inclusion, with the aim of acquainting representatives of public services and civil society organizations, students and the broader community with the connections between poverty and exclusion, their causes and consequences, and the policies of social inclusion.
