Starting from the premise that sociologists must direct their attention to studying trends of actual social change and making projections of future social developments, the first book by Miodrag Ranković on the relation of sociology to futurology is devoted to a review of the relevant literature and discussion of the main lines of intersection and separation between sociology and futurology, that is, “future studies”. Special attention is given to the revival of the idea of a “global sociology”, in terms of the necessity for developing global analyses of demographic, environmental, technological and more strictly sociological issues and uncertainties in projecting the future.
