Biography

Stefan Janković (1987), PhD, holds BA, MA and PhD degrees in Sociology from the Faculty of Philosophy – University of Belgrade, where he is currently an assistant professor. He also lectures at the Faculty of Architecture at the same university. His work moves fluidly across the intersections of the digital, the urban, and the planetary, navigating the entangled terrains of the Anthropocene, infrastructural transformations, and the ontological reconfigurations of cities under conditions of climate emergency, technological acceleration, and epistemic uncertainty. His scholarship traces how material, digital, and ecological infrastructures reshape urban assemblages; how digital sensing and planetary data infrastructures reframe ontologies of space; and how sociological imagination can respond to the intertwined crises of climate change, resource depletion, and global urbanization. His recent monograph, Cities, Anthropocene, Infrastructures: On Urban Ontology of Uncertainty (2024), crystallizes this commitment to thinking cities as sites of planetary negotiation, while his recent articles push debates on antifragility, postnature, and morphogenetic urbanism.
