The book is devoted to the social position of women experts in Yugoslavia. The analysis is based on statistical data and a postal survey conducted specifically for this research, involving 93 women scientists and artists. The approach is framed by feminist theory, looking at women as members of a marginal group, while the key notion is systemic inhibition, defined as a set of social mechanisms conditioning quantitative reduction and qualitative degradation of women’s activities and their overall social position. The effects of these mechanisms are analyzed in various areas of social life (education, work and profession, creativity, family), and at three analytic levels (societal-systemic, subsystemic, and individual).
