Among the many issues of urban living nowadays, the construction of identity of cities emerges as a particularly interesting topic, including also the way in which they are experienced and represented. In this book the authors examine how the relation between the person and the place is built, stressing the meanings and experiences of actors, by analyzing data collected in eight medium-sized Serbian towns. The constitution of identity, the authors contend, cannot be separated from the representations created in ordinary people’s lifeworld or from the power relations played out in the societal production of meaning, in the media and more generally.
