Biography

Milan Vukomanović (born 1960) is a full professor of sociology of religion at the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Belgrade. He received his Ph.D. in 1993 at the University of Pittsburgh, where he taught religious studies courses from 1989 to 1995. In 2002 he was a visiting professor of this University in the Semester at Sea program. Vukomanović has lectured and taught courses at NTNU – Trondheim, Norway, University of Sarajevo and the University of Belgrade Faculty of Philology and Faculty of Political Science. From 1996 to 2000 he was a research associate at the Institute of Social Sciences and Institute for Philosophy and Social Theory. The area of his academic interest ranges from sociology of religion and inter-religious dialogue to studies of Early Christianity and Islam. He is the co-founder of the Center for Religious Studies of the Belgrade Open School and member of the Kotor Network (University of Oslo) and Islam in South East Europe Forum. From 2006 to 2010 he was the president of the Sociological Association of Serbia and Montenegro. He was also the council member of the Faculty of Philosophy and University of Belgrade. Vukomanović has published about 300 works in Serbian and international publications and was a participant in many domestic and international scholarly projects.
