The book offers a sociological problematization of postmodern theory, focusing on the theoretical contributions of postmodernity to the understanding of visual media, primarily cinema. After critically reviewing the theoretical contributions of postmodernists, the author moves his focus onto the postmodern cinema, understood simultaneously as a major cause and indicator of the postmodern condition, in which reality is cross-cut by simulacra of images proliferating in the contemporary visual media culture. In the concluding chapter the analysis of postmodern cinema is narrowed down to a detailed description and interpretation of the work of Quentin Tarantino, the director of some key postmodern movies at the turn of the 21st century.
