Biography
Milan Vukomanović was born in Belgrade in 1960. He is a full professor of sociology of religion at the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Belgrade. He earned his PhD in 1993 at the University of Pittsburgh, where he taught the history of religions from 1989 to 1995. In 2002, he also served as a visiting professor at that university in the Semester at Sea program. Vukomanović has taught and offered courses at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) in Trondheim, at the Faculty of Philology and the Faculty of Political Sciences of the University of Belgrade, as well as at the University of Sarajevo. From 1996 to 2000, he worked as a research associate at the Belgrade Institute of Social Sciences and the Institute for Philosophy and Social Theory. His scholarly interests range from the sociology of religion and the history of early Christianity to Islamic studies and interreligious dialogue. He is a co-founder of the BOŠ Center for the Study of Religion and was also a member of the Kotor Network, coordinated by the University of Oslo. He served as president of the Sociological Association of Serbia and Montenegro, as well as a member of the Council of the Faculty of Philosophy and the Council of the University of Belgrade. He has published over 300 scholarly and professional works in domestic and international publications and has been involved in numerous national and international research projects.
