Starting from the premise that the family is a mediator between individual person and society and that it is a significant factor in both emergence and maintenance of alcoholism as well as in its elimination, the author examines the effects of family therapy for families with alcoholism-defined relations. Family therapists in treating such families seek to dismantle alcoholic patterns of behavior and trans-generational transfer of alcoholism. The main goal of the book is to identify changes in the functionality (structure and organizations) of alcoholics’ marriage and family, achieved within one year of the treatment. The results confirm the efficiency of family therapy and a significant share of successful outcomes among alcoholic families.
