The Institute for Sociological Research invites you to a guest lecture by prof. dr Rok Hacin (University of Maribor, Faculty of Criminal Justice and Security, Slovenia) entitled Slovenian Prison System at the Crossroads: Treatment and Resocialisation VS Punishment and Control. The lecture will be held on May 21, 2026, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Belgrade in the “Dragoslav Srejović” Ceremonial Hall.
The lecture will address key challenges faced by the Slovenian prison system in recent years, including prison overcrowding, changes in the structure of the prison population, rising levels of addiction, and staffing shortages. Particular attention will be given to the impact of these developments on staff–prisoner relations, the implementation of treatment and resocialisation programmes, and everyday life in prisons.
Rok Hacin is Associate Professor of Criminology at the Faculty of Criminal Justice and Security, University of Maribor. His research focuses on prison studies, prisoner treatment, prison staff culture, and comparative penal systems.
