The book addresses the question how feasible in practical terms is social sustainability of the city in the context of neoliberal capitalism. Special focus is placed on urban neighborhoods because this is the level where we may identify the potentials for making a city socially sustainable, while at the same time reflecting specific problems caused by neoliberal urban policy. A detailed analysis of social sustainability of the city at conceptual, phenomenological and strategic levels has enabled a better understanding of social consequences of increasingly acute residential segregation in today’s cities.
